Bible Numbers:
.
Seven Warnings
Studying bible numbers require great caution. Adam's fallen
race tends to see and believe what it wants to believe. God's glory is usually
not their chief interest. Therefore, since the numbers in the bible are easily the subjects of manipulation and abuse, please ponder the
following warnings carefully and prayerfully.
- Beware
lest you be ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth, (2Tim. 3:7).
- Beware
lest you be driven to your own hurt. "It is not
good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is itself a
weight" Prov. 25:27.
- Beware
of using bible numbers as one would
a horoscope. This is divination.
- Beware
of dogmatism when interpreting the past by perceived
patterns in history. We can only interpret the past accurately to the degree
that we focus on Christ Jesus.
- Beware
of making too much of the bible numbers.
Remember, "knowledge puffs up, but love builds up," (1Cor. 8:1).
- Beware
of trying to use the bible numbers to PROVE
some particular doctrinal position. The plain reading of the bible, though
ever increasing in depth, never contradicts itself. That which is foundational
in the Scriptures is also most plain, but that which is obscure is debatable.
Bible numbers occupy a secondary supportive role as far as bible
interpretation is concerned.
- Beware
of looking into your own life using bible numbers. Why destroy yourself!
