Katherine reports: The scheduled speakers through to June 2006 are as follows:
May 13th, 2005
Katherine Prout will speak on, "The Mysterious Death of Calvin Cornell". Calvin Cornell was the Great Grandfather of Katherine Prout. He lived in Prince Edward County, Ontario in the 1800s. On his way to buy land in Michigan and points beyond, he died suddenly. Many questions were never answered about his untimely death and missing money.

Tom Mountain has discovered through hours of research the importance of maps and boundaries. Tom will share his findings with us in his talk entitled, "Maps and Boundaries". Come and hear the details of such an important facet of research.

Our featured speaker is Helen Clark; a longtime member of O.G.S. Helen’s topic is, “Finding an Elusive Ancestor”. This is the first meeting of the fall and winter season. Our meeting at 7:00 p.m. will be held at the W.I.S.H. Centre, 177 King St. E., Chatham, On.

The Salem Witch Trials of Andover, Massachusetts, in 1692 is the subject of a presentation by Mary Lou Little and Tom Mountain. This presentation entails the circumstances of Samuel Wardwell, 1643-1692, who was hung as a witch and his wife, Sarah Hooper, 1650-c.1703, convicted but spared. We will hear how their great-granddaughter Tryphena Wardwell, 1761-1813 and husband Finlay Malcolm 1750-1829, came to Brant County, Upper Canada. Their descendants spread throughout SW Ontario and Michigan. This timely topic for October promises to raise the hair on the back of your neck!! O.G.S. member, Donna Cofell is speaking about the Blenheim and District Freedom Library and Museum, located in downtown Blenheim. Donna is a member of the Board of Directors and an active volunteer with the museum. She will speak about this project and other items of interest at the Museum. Donna will highlight how museums can be a source of information for the genealogist. Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the W.I.S.H. Centre, 177 King St. E. Chatham.

PROGRAMME CHANGE: Jim Gilbert, a retired teacher, is expected to speak concerning The River Thames, the topic of a new book of his. Also, our annual Christmas dinner meeting. This evening of celebration of the Christmas season will be held at the Active Lifestyle Centre on Merritt Avenue, Chatham. Tickets go on sale in late October. Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
