Some preachers say "all you need is Jesus", "get closer to Jesus", etc.

And it is true that He can do for us that which we can not do. Example: When Lazarus was dead and buried, Jesus raised him from the dead, calling "Lazarus, come forth". They were not able to raise Lazarus from the dead, He was able. He did. But Lazarus was still wrapped in the grave-clothes. Jesus said to the people standing by, "Unbind him". Jesus did for them what they could not. He expected them to do what they could.

It is true that Jesus can do for us that which we can not do.
He gave Himself on the Cross, the only and eternal Sacrifice for sin.
Isaiah 53:6 - The L
ORD laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
We can not save ourselves, we can not save one another; all we can do is accept His gift of Salvation.

I Thessalonians says we should turn to God from idols, to serve the true and living God, and wait for His Son from Heaven.

We should serve Him by worshipping and praising Him and by telling others about what He has done (in Creation and Salvation) and what He is going to do (in Consummation, coming again to Reign).

Hebrews 4:16: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

We are invited to come boldly (without fear, with freedom) to God's Throne, the throne where we find Grace -- grace to help in time of need. It does not say that He will remove our need; but that He will help in such times.

Jesus expects us, as the body of believers, to do for each other what we can. As believers we are members of God's family. Sadly it may often seem we are members of a dysfunctional family! Even many "cliques" in a local congregation of "believers"; mostly married couples associate with other married couples, widows and spinsters group together, etc. Single guys are to learn to 'get along by themselves'.

I Thessalonians says we should turn to God from idols, to serve the true and living God, and wait for His Son from Heaven.

Also we should serve Him by serving and helping and encouraging fellow-believers:

Romans 12:15 - Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
Galatians 6: 2 - Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

And we wait for His return, which is the blessed hope of the Church.
Titus 2:13: "Looking for that Blessed Hope, the glorious appearing of our Great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ."
