Room 108 has over 400 pages of educational activities for primary children. There are no passwords or entry fees but the site is free to access and use over the Internet. All activities have an educational focus for the primary student and elementary teacher and try to make learning both engaging and fun on the computer over the Internet.
Stories:
Animated interactive picture book stories are what make Room 108 unique. There is a library of more than twenty complete stories, some non fiction and reading games.
Each story has animated pages and background music to relate meaning to the text that the student is reading. The stories
vary from seven to twenty five pages and range in reading level from grade one to grade three reading level.
For non readers, many stories have the option to have the story read audibly using real audio. Most stories are accompanied
with a self marking comprehension quiz or educational game at the end with blooms taxonomy
question. These games relate directly to the story which has
just been read. Students also have the option to have a word list read to them of the difficult words in the story. This occurs
at the beginning of the story. Some stories allow the student to enter their own name into the story and complete story will include their name as a character. There is also a group of animated books based on Dolch words that allow students to click words to hear the pronunciation of the
word. These books are set up for the beginning reader to read independently.
The story themes are meant for primary children and range from humour to fairy tales to
adventure to How to Tie your Shoes stories. We also have
some non fiction books. Some stories allow students to put their own name in
before they read.
There is also a Dolch Word Activity Center that drills students in a fun manner on reading sight
words. This uses the theme
of animal eyes to engage student's attention as they attempt to progress to new levels and win a certificate.
There is also some Dolch word reading books.
There is a reading game at the end of the list that challenges children to
decode words by using meaning in the sentence, they ask, "What would
make sense?".
There are also many other activity centers such as Media Literacy Stories and Story Retells.
